General Info, Terms, and Conditions for Dahlia Cuttings Sales

Welcome to our Dahlia Cuttings Sales! We are so glad you’re here. Please carefully read the following terms and conditions before making a purchase. By purchasing from us, you agree to these terms. But also, please know that we are very easy to work with. If there is a problem with your order, we really want to know! If you have not purchased cuttings before, there can be a bit of a learning curve to getting them started. I highly recommend researching best practices for your area since your climate may be very different from mine. I will try my best to help you if you need it, but I can’t do the work for you, so it is your responsibility to care for them appropriately.

General Terms

  • Prices are subject to change. The price at the time of purchase is final. We may put items up for sale as the season goes on to clear out remaining inventory.
  • Your order is not final until you have fully checked out. There is a cart timer that kicks in when inventory is low to try to help you hold on to your items, however, it is not guaranteed.
  • No refunds or replacements will be given if the cutting fails after it has been used to make cuttings, due to improper planting, or weather after planting.

What to Expect

  • Cuttings: Your order will include a viable dahlia cutting with visible healthy roots in a root riot or similar cube. Any trimming will have been due to the process of taking the cutting originally. Some cuttings are not from the end, and they may have a blunt end in the center with 1-2 new stems growing from the side. Please look at the pictures available of the cutting before purchasing to see if you feel comfortable buying it. I will not refund for this because you have the opportunity to view the cuttings before buying.
  • Packaging: Cuttings are packaged with care to ensure they arrive in optimal condition. Each cutting is packaged in either a 1, 3, or 6-cutting green shipping container OR we will now be trying out using Kraft paperboard boxes in some shipments to see which method works better for us. My apologies if you get a plastic clamshell, but I am not Captain Planet and my job is to get it to you safely. (And we can be friends if you know who Captain Planet is.)
  • Growing Instructions: A set of care and planting instructions will accompany your order to try to help you achieve the best results. They are not comprehensive instructions because dahlias can thrive in a variety of climates and locations and the care may differ somewhat by region.
  • Shipping is now going to be done only through UPS 2-day, with the option to upgrade to overnight shipping for an additional fee. Shipping charges are based on an average cost of shipping plus the average cost of the shipping container.

What to Do When Your Order Arrives

  • Inspect Your Order: Carefully open your package and inspect each cutting for any undue damage. A little blackening of the leaves is not undue damage as long as it is not excessive. This happens due to moisture from the root riot combined with the leaf rubbing the plastic container. It is reasonably normal.
  • Contact Us if Necessary: If you find any issues with your order, please email us at info@perrydisefarm.com within 24 hours of receipt with photos. If it’s been more than 24 hours, please know you can still contact us. Sometimes damage doesn’t show up right away, and we understand that. But we really do need you to open your order and make sure they look ok in the very first day. Cuttings are very young and sensitive and should not be left in the shipping package for any longer than necessary.
  • Take proper care:
    • First and foremost, if the root riot is dry, give it some water immediately. Putting it inside a small cup and watering lightly from the bottom until it is rehydrated would be best.
    • Once it’s fully watered, you may either pot it up or set it out in a safe location to begin hardening off.
    • Please do not put it into immediate sunlight or plant it immediately. Give it at least a day to rest in indirect light and enough time to acclimate to the sunlight. If it’s a nice day and you have a tree that can provide dappled sunlight, that would be a great place to set it under.

Shipping

  • Orders will ship within a few days, in the order they are received. Please do not order if it is not safe to ship.
  • We try to only ship Mon-Wed, although this may change slightly with the use of 2-day shipping.
  • We ship within the continental United States. We do not offer international shipping at this time.
  • Due to recent issues with USPS, we will now only ship UPS 2-day (or overnight for an additional fee.) We will send you a tracking number when your order is shipped.

Disease Management

  • Our plants are inspected for virus throughout the growing season. We cull plants if we find evidence of disease. However, our plants are not virus tested.
  • We sanitize snips with a disinfecting bleach solution in between each plant to prevent cross contamination.
  • We use pesticides as needed to reduce pest pressure which helps prevent the transfer of dahlia viruses via insects. Cuttings may have been treated with Avid for mite prevention, Copper Fungicide for powdery mildew prevention, and spinosad for general pest prevention.
  • All dahlias have been grown for at least 1 year on our farm and are bloom verified.

Guarantee

  • Cuttings will arrive alive with visible roots or we will refund the cost of the cutting. We do not refund the shipping, but you may contact the shipping carrier for a refund.
  • Cuttings are guaranteed to be true to variety. If we have sent you the wrong variety, we will refund the cost of the cutting.
  • If a dahlia does not bloom true to variety, you must contact us by October 31 of the year in which you purchased with photos of the flower and your order number. Please keep in mind that dahlia blooms are often not strictly uniform and can change color based on the weather and soil conditions. We cannot guarantee your bloom will look exactly as pictured because of this. (As an example, the very popular “Cafe au Lait” normally blooms cream, but during a hot drought, we have seen it bloom fully pink.) Our photos are taken based on how the flower typically bloomed in our climate and soil. Also, please bear in mind, first blooms of a plant can be a little bit off.

What We Cannot Guarantee

  • It is estimated that 80% of dahlias have some form of virus. We do our best to cull individual plants that present with viral symptoms, but we cannot provide a guarantee against virus. If you find virus in something we’ve sent you, please feel free to let us know so we can evaluate our stock more closely to check for issues.
  • Once your cutting has been planted out, environmental factors are out of our control, so we cannot guarantee viability beyond the first few days and only if you follow the instructions provided.
  • Our job is to get it to you alive and safely. Your job is taking proper care of it when it arrives. I feel this is fair. If you don’t, please do not purchase.

Thank you for choosing our dahlia cuttings. We wish you a successful and beautiful growing season!
